NEUROFEEDBACK
Helping the Brain Learn New Patterns
Neurofeedback therapy is a noninvasive approach that uses real-time feedback about brain activity to help individuals practice changes in patterns associated with attention, arousal, and regulation. Through neurofeedback training, the brain receives information about its own activity, supporting learning and self-regulation over time.
HOW NEUROFEEDBACK WORKS
Learning Through Real-Time Feedback
What Happens During a Neurofeedback Session?
Think of neurofeedback as giving your brain a mirror. Just as a mirror allows you to see and adjust your movements, neurofeedback training provides your brain with information about its own activity.
During a session, small sensors are placed on your scalp to monitor your brainwaves. You might watch a video, listen to music, or engage with a computer-based activity. As your brain activity changes, the program responds in real time, providing feedback that helps reinforce certain patterns of activity.
You don't have to consciously figure out how to change your brainwaves. The process is designed to support learning through repeated feedback, allowing your brain to practice different patterns of activity over time.
BENEFITS OF NEUROFEEDBACK
How Neurofeedback May Support Your Therapeutic Work
Neurofeedback may be incorporated into EMDR therapy to support individuals experiencing difficulties with attention, emotional regulation, anxiety, or stress-related symptoms.
Because each person's brain and nervous system respond differently, neurofeedback is individualized based on their needs, treatment goals, and response to the training.
